$13 Billion Funneled to Sacklers, Bankruptcy Deal Questioned
It was recently discovered that over an undisclosed period, Purdue Pharma funneled $12-13 Billion dollars to the Sackler family.
Richard Sackler previously said in a deposition that the Sackler family only made $1-10 billion from Purdue Pharma.
Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy as part of a settlement offer to be worth as much as $12 billion over time, with the Sacklers contributing 4.5 billion of their personal wealth. The proposed bankruptcy plan would make Purdue a public benefit trust and eliminate Mundipharma from existence.
The attorneys general question the bankruptcy settlement terms, and claim, “if the States accepted the offer, there would never be a trial to determine the Sacklers’ liability for one of the greatest public health crises of our time.”
