Calais Regional Hospital in Maine has filed for bankruptcy protection citing the $25 million it owes to nearly 1,900 creditors, according to Bangor Daily News.
According to annual tax filings, the hospital has lost money every year since 2007.
Officials say the 25-bed hospital will remain open during the court process, which is expected to last a year.
About 275 people work at the facility, making it one of Washington County’s largest employers.
Hospital administrators say no layoffs are planned.
