Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll Reach a $16 Million Video Privacy Class-Action Lawsuit Settlement

Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll have reached a $16 million nationwide video privacy class action settlement to resolve claims that the company shared subscribers’ personal information with third-party companies such as Facebook, Google, Adobe and others without consent.

The settlement class is made up of those who were registered users of and viewed videos on a website, mobile app or any video-on-demand service or app owned or controlled by Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll was accused of violating the Video Privacy Protection Act by disclosing the personal information of users, subscribers and viewers to third-party companies. That personal information can include information on if a specific person requested or obtained specific video materials or services from Crunchyroll.
