Another court rules against Trump administration’s grant restrictions to sanctuary jurisdictions

A federal judge in New York City has ruled that the Trump administration did not have the authority to withhold public safety grants from sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate in immigration enforcement. U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos of Manhattan issued a permanent injunction preventing the Department of Justice from imposing three immigration-related conditions on grants distributed in eight jurisdictions that filed the lawsuit: New York City, the state of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
