Broker convicted of stealing $2M from dead woman

A financial broker from Secaucus, New Jersey has been convicted of stealing more than $2 million in stock certificates from a dead New York woman and using it to buy gold coins, authorities announced.

Robert Merlo, 55, was convicted on March 4 of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each wire fraud conviction and two years for identity theft when he is sentenced on June 10.
