Duke to Pay $112.5M to Settle Claims of Research Fraud

Resolving claims that the North Carolina institution used falsified scientific data to obtain research grants, Duke University agreed Monday to pay $112.5 million in a settlement with the federal government.

The deal settles allegations that Duke violated the False Claims Act by submitting applications and progress reports that contained fabricated data to government agencies in attempts to increase federal research funding between 2006 and 2018, the Justice Department announced Monday.
