Sears Settles Lawsuits with 32 Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garment Factories for $6.3M

Thirty-two Bangladeshi readymade garment factories received $6.3 million against $40 million worth of canceled orders after filing a lawsuit against American clothing brand Sears.

A total of 32 factories of 21 vendors received orders worth $42 million from Sears in the January-March period of 2020.

The buyer canceled all orders in April amid the COVID-19 pandemic although the buyers had already shipped products worth $22.7 million during the period.

According to people in the sector, suppliers filed a lawsuit with a United States court against Sears as the buyers filed for bankruptcy in October 2020 and declined to pay even for products which had already been shipped.
