Executive ‘fired because she’s black’ wins $6M in discrimination suit

  • Rebecca McCarthy sued Care One after she was fired from one of the company’s senior rehabilitation centers in Bound Brook, New Jersey, in 2016. She accused senior administrator Alison Fitzpatrick-Durski of discrimination
  • McCarthy alleged Fitzpatrick-Durski told her: ‘I don’t want a black person walking around here in a suit as VP. I want you in scrubs, flats and a lab coat.’ She was fired the next day and replaced by a white woman, the lawsuit said
  • A jury ruled in McCarthy’s favor this month, awarding her $4.1 million in punitive damages, $1.8million for lost wages and $5,000 for mental anguish
