Nursing Home Patient in New York Awarded $1.4 Million Over Leg Amputation

An arbitrator has awarded $1.4 million to an Oswego nursing home patient who had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.

The arbitrator found that St. Luke Health Services, 299 E. River Road, Oswego, had violated minimum standards for nursing home care and was negligent in its care and treatment of Gary Cinqmars, 64, of Constantia.

In November 2019, Cinqmars was admitted to St. Luke for short-term rehabilitation. A week later, St. Luke documented that he had developed a pressure sore on his left heel. The pressure sore became infected and eventually required the amputation of his leg.
