Minnesota Begins Distributing $700 Million of Its $850 Million Pollution Settlement

State officials turned on the spigot of 3M money Wednesday, sending $700 million flowing into 14 east metro cities for water-quality projects.

The projects will remove polluting chemicals made by 3M by filtering water at 33 municipal wells, expanding or building six treatment plants, connecting homes to city water systems, and providing filters for homes with private wells.

“This plan protects drinking water now and into the future,” said Kirk Koudelka, assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
