Judge Cites Climate Change in Block of Wyoming Drilling

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has blocked new oil and gas drilling on public land in Wyoming because the federal government failed to sufficiently consider the cumulative impact on climate change. U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras ruled in a March 19 opinion that the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management had violated the National Environmental Policy Act, which requires that federal agencies consider the environmental consequences of their actions.
