Kansas City lawyer Brendan Donelon, who represented two St. Louis-area managers who won a lawsuit against Steak ‘n Shake, just had his part of the now-$7.7 million class-action judgment delivered. A federal judge this month tacked on $3 million for “liquidated damages” and $1.6 million in legal fees to the nearly $3 million jury verdict reached in February.
U.S. District Judge John Ross, of the Eastern District of Missouri in St. Louis, added to the award on May 10. Donelon filed the class-action claim in September 2014 alleging that corporate-owned restaurants in the company’s “St. Louis region” did not pay managers for overtime work, in violation of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and Missouri wage laws.
