Lincoln County Agrees to $850,000 Settlement in Jail Death

Lincoln County has agreed to pay $850,000 to the estate of a man who died by suicide while in custody in 2018. The estate of Joshua P. Gilleo, 49, of Depoe Bay, had notified the county of its plans to sue after Gilleo’s death in the Lincoln County Jail in October 2018.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday issued a statement about the settlement, saying an outside review “determined that deputies responded within policy, procedures, and best practices.” The county’s insurance carrier is paying the settlement, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to his obituary, he was a general contractor for more than 30 years and is survived by his wife and three sons.
