Breastfeeding Mother Files a Lawsuit Against a Michigan Bar Under New Pumping Law for Workers

A woman is suing a Grand Rapids bar for allegedly not giving her time to breast pump at work and firing her because of “the time she took to pump milk for her infant.”

A federal lawsuit accuses Glass House of violating the PUMP Act – a recently passed law that gives protections to workers who are breast pumping. Since going into effect in April 2023, the law has been levied against major employers like Amazon, McDonald’s and Dollar General.

This PUMP Act case, filed in the U.S. District Court of Western Michigan, is one of the first in the state.
