N.J. sues billionaire Sackler family for ‘fueling’ opioid crisis

Authorities in New Jersey are going after eight members of the wealthy family that founded drug manufacturing giant Purdue Pharma with a lawsuit claiming they became “unimaginably rich” by deceptively marketing highly addictive painkillers.

State Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, whose office brought the suit, said the members of the Sackler family knowingly “built a multi-billion-dollar drug empire based on addiction.”
