Paralyzed Cyclist Settles With a Washington State County for $10 Million After Battle Over Trail Safety Negligence

After more than six years, a cyclist finally won the justice he sought after a crash on a King County trail left him paralyzed from the neck down.

Carl Schwartz was an avid cyclist, logging thousands of miles on his bike. His love of cycling was forever ripped away from him when he hit a metal bollard, a post used to prevent motorists from driving on bike trails.

The 67-year-old did not see the post in the middle of the Green River Trail and collided with it in March 2017.
