NJ firefighter’s $1M award in retaliation case is affirmed

Ex-Trenton firefighter Jesse Diaz charged that now-retired Deputy Chief Leonard Carmichael Jr. and Capt. James Hall, isolated, scapegoated and retaliated against him for insisting a white colleague, Pete Plumeri, get disciplined for calling a black colleague the N-word, 

He complained to Hall about Plumeri’s racist antics and went over his head, writing to former city fire director Qareeb Bashir, when Hall seemed indifferent to the complaint.
