The Sackler family who is now notoriously known as the family behind Purdue Pharma and Oxycontin has refused to give up their wealth to settle opioid claims against Purdue.
The Sackler family had been in talks with attorneys for a national settlement but as a result of this refusal, talks are now stalled.
The deal as discussed would have compelled Purdue to file for Bankruptcy and to dissolve the Purdue international opioid businesses such as Mundipharma.
Even though the Sackler family still refused their wealth. Purdue has suggested a deal may still be possible believing a settlement is a better path for recovery than wasteful litigation.
