Six opioid drugmakers subpoenaed in federal opioid probe

Brooklyn federal prosecutors have subpoenaed six opioid drugmakers for a criminal investigation.

The companies that have received subpoenas are: Teva, McKesson, AmerisourceBergen, Johnson & Johnson, Amneal and Mallinckrodt.

The prosecutors are investigating the companies to determine if any of them violated the federal Controlled Substances Act for not reporting suspicious signs of diversion of prescription opioids.

The probe is in beginning stages, and more drug companies are expected to be subpoenaed in the next months.
