Struggling Houston helicopter co. files for Chapter 11

Houston-based Bristow Group Inc. and seven affiliated entities have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The voluntary petition lists total assets of $2.86 billion and total debts of nearly $1.89 billion. It also lists between 1,000 and 5,000 creditors. The entities have filed a motion to consolidate their Chapter 11 cases and filed various “first-day” motions seeking authority to pay employee wages and benefits as well as vendors and suppliers in order to continue operating during the bankruptcy proceedings.
