North Minneapolis Residents File a Lawsuit Over Unfair Housing Code Alleging Discrimination

Ten former and current north Minneapolis residents have filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging discrimination by imposing unfair housing code regulations.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, is demanding more housing code inspectors to the North Side as residents report complaints without anything being resolved by landlords. It also mentions the Powderhorn Park neighborhood in south Minneapolis experiencing similar issues.

The filing claims that north Minneapolis, where over 70% of residents are BIPOC, has more than “nine times the number of complaints relative to more affluent parts of the city with higher concentrations of white residents.”
