23&Me to Pay $18M Over Data Breach Exposing Millions of Customers Genetic Data

New York and 42 other attorneys general secured an $18 million settlement with 23andMe over a breach that exposed millions of customers’ genetic data.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the settlement after a multistate investigation into the October 2023 breach, which 23andMe said affected 6.9 million consumers, including 305,245 in New York. According to the attorney general, some customer data was later published for sale on the dark web.
