Blue Cross Blue Shield Sued Over Claims That It Shared Medical Information With Third Parties

Five plaintiffs have sued Blue Cross Blue Shield Association after the health insurance company allegedly disclosed federal employees’ medical information to third parties without consent.

Plaintiffs Teresa Gouch, Denise Spanos, George Amerson, Kyle Mummey and Marcia Beasley filed the Blue Cross Blue Shield class action lawsuit on Nov. 7 in Illinois federal court.

They claim Blue Cross Blue Shield utilized tracking technology that allowed third-parties such as the Chinese-owned social media company TikTok to intercept federal employees’ communications with the insurer and use the data to sell targeted advertising or otherwise monetize the information.
