A Nursing Home is Being Sued After an Employee Died From COVID-19

The family of a woman who died of COVID-19 has filed a lawsuit against the Sussex County nursing home where she worked, claiming they didn’t provide her or other office workers with a mask or other personal protective equipment.

Mary Beatriz Guerra, 54, “devoted her life providing care for others” and worked for more than 20 years at Andover Subacute and Rehab Center in Lafayette Township “providing critical care for patients in need,” states the suit, filed last week in New Jersey Superior Court.

Andover came under fire last year and was the subject of a New Jersey Attorney General investigation after the media reported bodies were stacked up in a makeshift morgue at the facility. (A class-action lawsuit filed in April 2020 claimed more than 80 residents of the facility died of complications from coronavirus).
