Actress Sues Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater, Alleging Racial Discrimination Led to Hair Loss

A woman is suing Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater Company, alleging racial discrimination. Nike Imoru says a hairstyle for a 2025 production of “The Odyssey” left her with severe and permanent hair loss.

Imoru performed the role of five characters in the Kate Hamill’s adaptation of the ancient epic in February of 2025. In order for the actress to transition between roles, a hairstylist placed Imoru’s hair into cornrows.
