Adobe Hit With a $33.8 Million Verdict in a Patent Lawsuit Over Digital Licensing Technology
ADOBE owes a software company nearly US$33.8 million for infringing a patent that covers a system for controlling access to digital content, a jury in Delaware federal court said in a verdict on Wednesday (Sep 27).
The jury agreed with ViaTech Technologies that Adobe’s technology for activating licenced copies of software like Acrobat and Photoshop violates ViaTech’s patent rights.
An Adobe spokesperson said that the company was disappointed with the verdict and “takes the integrity of the patent system seriously,” and that it is “exploring all post-trial and appellate options.”
