Albertson’s Supermarket Chain to Pay $774M to Settle Claims Related to the Opioid Epidemic

One of the nation’s largest supermarket chains will pay hundreds of millions of dollars to settle claims related to the opioid epidemic.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Tuesday that Albertsons Companies Inc., which operates Safeway and Vons grocery stores in the state, has agreed in principle to a deal. Under the framework, Bonta said the chain would pay about $774 million to “address its role in the opioid epidemic.”
