An Iowa Walmart Is Sued Over Gender and Race Discrimination
The Walmart in Ottumwa is being accused of gender and race discrimination. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced a lawsuit on Feb. 11 after a Black Ottumwa store employee was supposedly denied a promotion because she has a newborn baby.
Records state Walmart violated federal law by denying her this promotion.
The employee says the company failed to promote her to a management position because it assumed she would not remain with the company long due to her having a newborn at home.
