Apple Upgrades Apple Music With a New Surprise Acquisition

Apple has just announced a surprise acquisition. Here’s what it means.
Apple Music has 75 million songs, but it hasn’t quite managed to crack one important genre, classical music, until now. And it’s doing it by acquiring Primephonic, the hugely respected standalone classical music streaming service.
In a rare interview, Oliver Schusser, Apple’s VP of Apple Music and Beats, told me what it means for Apple Music and Primephonic users.
“Apple Music is six years old. We’re trying to do wonderful things for more people to enjoy streaming and one of the areas where we felt like there’s really underserved in digital, not just streaming, is the classical space and particularly providing a great experience for classical enthusiasts.”
