Cherokee Nation Settles $80 Million Lawsuit for New Judicial Facilities

An $80 million federal lawsuit settlement, the largest single one-time settlement in the Cherokee Nation tribe’s history, will be used to build new judicial facilities.
The proposed Tahlequah-based justice center will house the tribe’s Supreme Court, district court, and attorney general’s office. The remaining settlement funds would be set aside to construct a district courthouse at a future location.
