Cincinnati Settles Class Action Lawsuit for $8M After Hundreds Arrested During George Floyd Protests

The City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County settled a class-action lawsuit filed in response to the hundreds of arrests made during the 2020 protests after the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, city officials said.

In the settlement for Kenney, et al. v. City of Cincinnati, the city and county agreed to pay more than $8.1 million to 479 people arrested, according to a news release from the City of Cincinnati.

The city states that Hamilton County will pay $65,000 of the settlement, while Cincinnati will use judgment bonds to pay the remainder. The payment includes $2,035,750 for attorneys’ fees
