City of Tucson Receives $4.8M from PFAS Settlement

The City of Tucson has received $4.8 million to continue its ongoing treatment of forever chemicals in the city’s groundwater.
The funds come from a 2018 liability lawsuit filed against the manufacturers of Aqueous Film Forming Foam, firefighting chemicals containing PFAS, per- and polyfluoroakyl substances’ which are known to cause cancer.
Tim Thomure, Tucson City Manager said the money will be used to recover taxpayer funds that have been used to manage PFAS as well as infrastructure that has been affected.
Overall, Tucson will receive about $30 million from the settlement.
