College Professors in California File a Lawsuit Against the State’s New DEI Mandates

A group of six California community college professors is suing over the state’s new diversity, equity and inclusion mandates, alleging the rules violate free speech and infringe on academic freedom.

According to the lawsuit, faculty members are now required “to teach in a manner reflecting DEI and anti-racist principles.”

The professors teamed up with attorney’s from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.

“These are some of the most complicated and contested topics in America today,” explained David Ortner, an attorney with FIRE. “What the state is doing is coming in and settling the debate by force.”
