Former Nurse Accused of Inappropriately Touching Patients Pleads Not Guilty

TORRINGTON — The former New Milford Hospital nurse accused of inappropriately touching a patient in 2019 has pleaded not guilty to the first- and fourth-degree sexual assault charges brought against him last year.

Charnjit Singh Bains was arrested last July following a New Milford police investigation into a complaint filed by a woman who said Bains sexually assaulted her when she was a patient at the hospital in December 2019.

Bains’ attorney, Brian J. Woolf, described the not guilty pleas entered in his client’s case as “procedural.”

“We entered pro forma not guilty jury election pleas, (which) stick you on the pre-trial calendar,” the East Hartford-based attorney said Wednesday.
