Man Accused of Firing a Gun During Jan. 6th Riot Arrested on Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Charges

A man accused of firing a gun in the air during a mob’s attack on the U.S. Capitol has been arrested on charges that he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in Utah more than two years before the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, according to authorities and newly unsealed court records.

John Emanuel Banuelos, 40, was arrested in Illinois last month on a warrant from Salt Lake County, Utah. He remained jailed in Cook County, Illinois, on Monday, according to a spokesperson for the county sheriff’s office. The spokesperson didn’t know if Banuelos has an attorney.
