Man Receives Historic $22.9 Million Settlement for Suffering Brain Injuries, Paralysis After Accident

A Staten Island man who suffered a traumatic brain injury after a ladder gave way, plunging him 12-feet head-first on the ground five years ago, settled a lawsuit for $22.9 million earlier this month, said his lawyer.

His attorney says that figure marks the largest settlement in borough history for a construction accident.

In 2017, the year of the incident, Todd Novello, then 46, had recently gotten married and had a 2-year-old son.

Although the terms of the settlement prohibit the Novello family or their attorneys from disclosing the lawsuit’s defendants, location or date of the incident, Novello was apparently standing on a ladder installing security cameras near the top of a building when he fell.
