Mayo Clinic to Pay Nearly $20M to Woman After Botched Surgery Left Her with Diseased Tissue

A Fort Dodge woman has won a $19.8 million jury verdict following a botched 2018 operation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. With interest, the award could top $27 million, according to attorneys.
Court records and trial testimony showed Linette Nelson was left with five to seven centimeters of diseased rectum during a multi-stage procedure. The colorectal surgeon, Dr. Amy Lightner, moved forward with a third surgery despite tests indicating the error. The complications then forced three reconstructive surgeries.
