Ex-Employee Sues the Oklahoma State Department of Education Alleging Wrongful Termination

A former Oklahoma State Department of Education employee has filed a lawsuit against the department and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters (R).

Janessa Bointy worked for OSDE as a school counselor specialist until her termination last spring.

Her lawyer, Leah Roper, filed a wrongful termination tort claim with OMES in late May. On Friday, Roper filed an official lawsuit against the department and Walters in the Oklahoma County District Court.

The lawsuit alleges OSDE fired Bointy for her involvement with her children’s school district. Bointy had spoken at an Edmond Public School board meeting about children’s mental health and teen suicides.
