New Mexico Supreme Court Overturns Murder Conviction for Man in 12-Year Old’s Killing

The New Mexico Supreme Court overturned a murder conviction for a Valencia County man in a killing that occurred when he was a teenager.
The state Supreme Court vacated Brandon Villalobos’ second-degree murder and tampering with evidence convictions. Justices unanimously concluded Villalobos was denied a right to a speedy trial. They cited the nearly six years he spent in custody waiting for a trial on charges in his friend’s death.
