Muslim Woman Files a Lawsuit Over the Removal of Religious Head Covering in Jail Booking Photo

A Muslim woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Kent County Sheriff’s Department after she says he was forced to remove a religious head covering for a booking photo.

Jannah Hague filed the lawsuit Wednesday, Jan. 3, in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids.

She was arrested in April in her home while wearing a hijab. She was forced to remove the covering for a booking photo at Kent County Correctional Facility, the lawsuit said. She was later released without being charged, her lawsuit said.
