Ohio State to Pay Over $2M to Resolve Allegations it Hid Ties to Chinese Government in Federal Research Grant Applications

Ohio State University has agreed to pay more than $2 million to resolve allegations that it failed to disclose some employees’ ties to the Chinese government while applying for federal research funding.

The U.S. Department of Justice said the allegations involve grants from NASA and the National Science Foundation between 2012 and 2023. Investigators said Ohio State employees noted affiliations with Chinese universities and state-run research organizations in annual reports, but that information was not passed along to federal agencies.
