The UConn Women’s Rowing Team Has Filed a Lawsuit and a Restraining Order Against the School

Lawyers for the UConn women’s rowing team recently filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction to stop the school from cutting the rowing team after the 2020-21 season ends due to budget cuts and also filed a class action lawsuit against the school, citing Title IX violations.

The motion for the temporary restraining order was filed in order to keep UConn from cutting the team, selling equipment or ending the lease for its boathouse on Coventry Lake until a hearing for a preliminary injunction can be held. The rowing season ends Sunday unless the team qualifies for the NCAA championships, which take place May 28-30.

The plaintiffs also asked for preliminary and permanent injunctions to stop discrimination against female athletes, including the rowing team, at UConn.
