Patients Impacted by Data Breach in New York File Class Action Lawsuit Against Medical Billing Company
A class action lawsuit has been filed against medical billing company Practice Resources, LLC, after the personal information of 924,138 patients of Syracuse area hospitals and doctor’s offices was compromised in a ransomware attack on the company.
The compromised data included patients’ names, home addresses, dates of treatment health plan numbers, and medical record numbers, according to Practice Resources.
The lawsuit, filed on Friday in Onondaga County court, alleges that Practice Resources failed to “exercise reasonable care” in securing and protecting the sensitive personal data of patients and employees.
