Purdue Pharma’s $7B Settlement Approved by Federal Judge

A federal judge officially approved drugmaker Purdue Pharma’s $7.4 billion deal to settle thousands of lawsuits over the toll of the opioid epidemic and pay victims, prosecutors in the case told USA TODAY.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane on Nov. 18 approved OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma’s plan to settle thousands of lawsuits over the harms of the opioids. The Sackler family privately owned Purdue until the company filed for bankruptcy in 2019. The company officially dissolved in 2021 to be restructured into a public trust to address opioid addiction.
