Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors Approved $22.5 Million Settlement for Wrongful Accusations

Almost six years after a criminal defense attorney and seven others were found not guilty in a 2012 killing, the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved a $22.5 million settlement for the wrongful accusations.
The murder investigation that implicated attorney Frank Carson, two brothers who own a Turlock liquor store, three California Highway Patrol officers, and Carson’s wife and daughter, began in March of 2012 when 26-year-old Korey Kauffman disappeared.
Hunters in a forest near Yosemite National Park found Kauffman’s body on Aug. 19, 2013. In August 2015, law enforcement arrested Carson and the seven others.
