Washington State Announces $518M Settlement with Opioid Distributors

Washington state will receive $518 million, $476 million of which will go toward the state’s opioid epidemic, after Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s settlement with three opioid distributors.

Ferguson announced the resolution at a press conference in Seattle on Monday. He said 125 local government jurisdictions unanimously joined the resolution, which stems from the three companies failing to stop suspicious opioid shipments coming into the state. The companies — McKesson Corp., Cardinal Health Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. — also failed to report the shipments, Ferguson said.

He said $215 million will go toward cities and counties helping people in crisis. Local governments negotiated the amounts each area received.
