Suspect of El Paso Walmart Shooting Pleads Guilty

A Texas man pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges accusing him of killing nearly two dozen people in a racist attack at an El Paso Walmart, changing his plea weeks after the U.S. government said it wouldn’t seek the death penalty for the hate crimes and firearms violations.

Handcuffed and wearing a dark blue jumpsuit, Patrick Crusius, 24, appeared in the El Paso federal courtroom facing 90 federal charges in total following one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

“I plead guilty,” he said.

U.S. District Judge David C. Guaderrama found Crusius guilty on the following counts:

The charges consisted of 23 counts of committing a hate crime resulting in death, 23 counts of using a firearm to commit murder during or in relation to a crime of violence, 22 counts of committing a hate crime involving an attempt to kill and 22 counts of using a firearm during and in retaliation of a crime of violence.
