The EPA Approves a $90 Million Settlement for the Gold King Mine Cleanup

A settlement with Sunnyside Gold Corporation and its Canadian parent company, Kinross Gold Corporation, over the Gold King Mine spill was agreed to recently.

The agreement, OK’d by the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Justice Department, U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the state of Colorado, would provide $90 million for cleanup.

Sunnyside and Kinross will pay $45 million to the U.S. and Colorado. The U.S. will dismiss its claims against both companies.
