Ubisoft Shuts Down a Huge Fan-Made Project Over Copyright Claims

Ubisoft took down a large fan-made project in “Far Cry 5” over a copyright claim from a third party, effectively wiping nearly 1,400 hours’ worth of progress.

The project in question is a remake of all “Goldeneye 007” maps using “Far Cry 5’s” level editor. User Krollywood made very accurate, reimagined maps from the classic FPS game using only assets found in “Far Cry 5.” Krollywood successfully recreated every “Goldeneye” map but his success was cut short after Ubisoft took all of them down, Kotaku reported.

The recreated “Goldeneye” maps were extremely faithful to their original counterparts. Krollywood was able to use “Far Cry’s” limited assets to remake all of the levels in a playable state in the game’s Arcade mode, which serves as a hub for community members to create and share their own content.
