Up to 5,000 Servicemembers and Military Spouses to Receive $3M in ‘First of Its Kind’ Settlement

Up to 5,000 servicemembers and military spouses could benefit from a $3 million settlement the U.S. Department of Justice reached with 42 Georgia licensing boards, the government announced Tuesday.

The department accused the boards of violating the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act by not recognizing military families’ out-of-state professional licenses when they relocate to Georgia on military orders.

Since 2023, the federal law has required states’ licensing authorities to accept such certifications, the Justice Department noted.
